Really interesting. We both have trouble with short stories. I’ve had a similar experience with trying to write one. It never got published. Alice Munro is the queen of the short story. Some say she invented it. I’ve ordered the Feisty Deeds book.
I loved your story - it was unexpected. One thinks of Paris at that time as the city of the impressionists, the Moulin Rouge, gaiety, and fun. Your story reminded me that it wasn't like that for everyone...
